Doctoral Programme

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The minimum academic qualification for admission to the Ph.D program is a Second Class Master’s degree in Social Work by a recognised university in India or abroad, with at least an average of 55 per cent of aggregate marks.

All interested candidates shall meet the following requirement:

  • Obtain pre-doctoral training in research methodology (offered by this college or any other university) for 12 credits
  • Clear the PhD Entrance Test (PET)
  • Submit a doctoral proposal of 8-10 pages (Overview on the research problem, objectives of the study, methodology to be followed, significance of the study, references, and the candidate’s research/work experience in that area, if any)
  • Appear for an personal interview.

Based on the overall performance an offer of provisional admission will be provided. 

INTAKE CAPACITY 

The need to provide individualized supervision, demands that a relatively small number of doctoral scholars are admitted to the College. Maximum of 25 scholars can be registered in the PhD Program at any given point of time. 

RESEARCH AREAS

Currently, there are 4 approved full time research guides available in the centre. Applications for doctoral studies in the following themes are strongly encouraged:

  • Disability Studies
  • Social Welfare Administration 
  • Informal Labour 
  • Migration Studies
  • Social Exclusion/ Inclusive Policy
  • Social Work Education
  • Community Health
  • Peace Education
