The field action projects have also been a source of inspiration to our students and staff, who get the opportunity to practice and examine social work theory in the project arena. The current projects of the college are:
ANUBHAV YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
It started in 1997, with the objectives of mobilizing youth and raising their social consciousness in order to equip them with skills of social responsibilities and self awareness. It aspires to build a cadre of youth leaders. Anubhav conducts training programmes, exposure visits, camps and exchange programmes to meet its objectives and make youth responsible citizens.
SPANDAN (Since 2017)
The deaths of children due to malnourishment reported in June -July 2016 exposed the magnitude of malnourishment among the tribal households. The local government of Talasari block, Palghar district contacted the College of Social Work to intervene. The general objective of the project is to disseminate knowledge on balanced diet amongst communities in Savroli, Dongari and Anvir villages in Talasari. The project is implemented in three revenue villages namely Savroli, Dongare and Anvir comprising of twenty-five hamlets in the areas surrounding Talasari Taluka in Palghar District of Maharashtra.The specific objectives of the project is to improve the health status of tribal children; to increase the knowledge of mothers and care takers; to assess post interventional knowledge and practice by conducting research studies and to network with government agencies to reduce malnutrition.
Saksham Project
College of Social Work (Autonomous) Nirmala Niketan has signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ with Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, as sub-sub recipient (SSR) to fight AIDS and Tuberculosis in India under Saksham SSR Regional Institute for Capacity Building and Evaluation (RICE). The two ongoing projects of Saksham SSR RICE are Saksham Pramaan and Saksham Pravaah are funded by the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFTAM). The principal recipients are National Aids Control Program and National TB Elimination Program of the Ministry of Health, GoI. Tata Institute of Social Sciences is the Sub Recipient (SR) of the grant. College of Social Work (Autonomous), Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai is implementing these projects as SSR in the West Zone which includes the State of Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. Pravaas Project
Pravaas (a field action project of the College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai) is committed to utilize integrated social work intervention through systematically working with client system, i.e older adults, and addressing target/ change agent systems namely families, communities, and policy environments to tackle aging related social exclusion. At present, Pravaas team works in three slums, namely Bhagat Singh Nagar, Chatrapati Vasahat, and Indira Nagar in Goregaon West (Mumbai). Click link for more details about the project.
